… and 28 Profound Wisdom On Life And Death
Dr. Myles, ever upbeat
Posted by Ambassador T. Brikins
Dr. Myles Munroe and his wife were in a private jet that
struck a construction crane on approach to Grand Bahamas
International Airport
on Sunday 9th November and crashed, killing all nine persons aboard.
He was the leader of The Bahamas Faith Ministries, one of the largest religious
congregations in the Island chain in the Bahamas, with thousands of
worshippers. Munroe is a best selling author, Leadership consultant and
frequent visitor to many African countries.
It is reported that there will be no open casket viewing of the bodies of the popular pastor and motivational speaker and his wife, Ruth, at a national memorial planned for the couple in the Bahamas next Wednesday
in a five-hour event at Thomas Robinson Stadium in the Bahamas.
However, before this unfortunate incident, he had been
attending his funeral.

28. Myles Munroe’s Great Question to you.
“Life is a mysterious experience”, he says. He continues,
- There are questions in life we cannot answer.
So please don’t try to invent
answers. Normally when there is a lot of emotional upheaval and tremor people
suddenly become prophets and prophetesses. And they start talking about dreams.
Shut your mouth. Don’t try to speak things you don’t know anything about.
- There are things in life we can never explain
So, don’t try to impress people to
explain the mysteries of life.
- There are things in life you can never change.
We pray, we fast, we believe for a
lot of things. Am not a boy. Am a man. I’ve been here living almost 58 years
even though you can’t see that.
I’ve seen almost everything. I’ve
been poor. I’ve had much. I‘ve had nothing.
I’ve been attacked, I’ve been criticized. I’ve been misunderstood. I’ve
been depressed. I’ve been happy. I’ve had nothing. I’ve seen people born. I
dedicate people. Marry them…and I bury them.
Some I prayed for, they got
healed. Some I prayed for, the healing didn’t manifest physically. Some got
healed and still died.
So, there are something’s you
cannot change. Know your limit.
4. There are things in life you
cannot control.
Settle it now.
- There are things in life we cannot stop.
Things like death. You cannot even
choose when it happens. Can’t stop some things.
- There are somethings in life we cannot be responsible for.
Sometimes we take responsibility
for things we didn’t cause and it actually destroys us. Because we walk away with
guilt.
There are things you are not
responsible for…your children’s lifestyle after 25 years. So if your kids
decide to do somethings, don’t sit around all your life depressing yourself as
a parent while they are having fun doing foolishness.
You’ve done your part,
Somebody devorced you and you are
sitting depressed why they are having a second spouse. Get on with your life.
You are not responsible if your spouse
dies. There should be no guilt…I didn’t do enough.
- There are things in life we cannot exceed.
Sometime you spend all your money to get somebody medically
well. It didn’t still work. You can’t exceed that. You tried your best and then
when you reach that “ex” where you cannot exceed, then trust God.
One of the greatest statements I’ve heard that has helped me in my life
today was in 1975 in the Campus of Oral Roberts University. He said in
Chapel one day, my spiritual father, Richard’s father, and he was talking to
everyone- the students.
He said, “expect the
best and prepare for the worst. Do all that you can and leave the rest to God.
It sounded so simple. It
kept me all these years.
…So, I tell people what old people in the Bahamas say, let God be God.
Some of us try to be God. I’ve met so many people who think
they are the Holy Spirit. They want to explain everything. They have a word all
the time. They got a prophesy all the time. They want to be the Holy Spirit.
They want to convict people to come to Christ.
You are not God. Leave what is God’s to
God
1. There are things only God can do.
So, behave yourself.
2. There are things only God knows.
Get on with your life and don’t try to be God. It’s ok to
tell people I don’t know.
You know many things happen in my life as a pastor and I
don’t know anything about it. And I go home eating cornflakes enjoying myself
because I’ll don’t carry nothing He don’t put on me.
- There are things only God understands.
Don’t try to have a deep
understanding. Know what you know and thank God for what you know.
- There are things only God can explain.
So, let Him explain. And He’ll tell you if He want to. And
if He doesn’t, it’s ok. Leave it to Him. Why did you loose your job? I don’t
know. Know your limits. So have a good time on earth and let God be God. Take
the pressure off and give God praise.
The Keys to Life
- You must know what your limits are.
- You must know what you are not responsible for.
- You must know what is your responsibility
- You must accept what you know, what you can and cannot do and accept what you can and cannot do.
Accept that you don’t know what you can and cannot do.
How He Wrote His Obituary Everyday
All of us will die one day. So, very day I write my
obituary. I hope you are doing the same thing.
You are never remembered for what you did not do.
May be this moment is good one to add a paragraph to your
obituary. I f you can sing and you are not singing a paragraph is being
deleted. And if you can cook and isn’t cooking a paragraph is being omitted. If
you are good with the youths and you are not there, a paragrh would have said,
“the youths loved her”.
Ladies and gentlemen, there somethings you can’t do, but
there are things you can do.
I talked about limits. Again when things come, we try to
solve it ourselves. KINGDOM FAITH submits its limitations to the unlimited God.
When your faith is tested you must submit it to God.
Psalms 131:1
1.” LORD, my heart is
not proud;
my eyes are not
haughty.
I don’t concern
myself with matters too great
or awesome for me.”
New Living
Translation
That is I don’t walk about with my intellectual prowess, so
that I can impress people that I know everything and I can solve very problem.
No wonder David was a successful man.
This verse is a
powerful verse. I live on it since I was a teenager.
I don’t look down on people who don’t know what is going on.
I don’t look down on people who are ignorant of things that are happening as if
I know every thing.
“
…I don’t concern
myself with matters too great
or awesome for me”.
New Living
Translation
We are tempted to be so impressive that we invent answers.
Solution to What We Go through in Life
- Every problem is temporary.
Including your grief. If people are acting strange around
you all of a sudden, just remember they are temporary issues.
- Never apply a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
People go through spells. Life goes through spells. If the
children do stupid things, the Bible says if you train them and they go away
for five years they will return.
The danger is sometimes we make a decision because of
pressure not purpose. Later, you realize you want to reverse the decision and
it might be too late.
The Most Dangerous Thing to Loose In
Life
The most dangerous thing to loose in life is not money, nor
friends, nor your car. The most dangerous thing to loose in your life is your
faith.
I was with the family of Dr. Mark Bethel last night.
His younger brother said, when I got the call that my
brother Mark had died, I almost lost my faith. And I began to question God.
My whole body cringed spiritually because you don’t want to
loose that. When faith is lost, life has nothing left. When you loose your
faith you loose everything.
When you loose faith, there is no other reason for living.
Peter and Judas had the same problem. They both denied
Jesus. One of them got paid for it. Both of them could have been saved. But
Judas applied a permanent solution to a temporary problem. You can always
be forgiven. All of us can be forgiven. But if you think you cannot be
forgiven, you apply a permanent solution.
Why He Does Not Trust
Anybody
God Sent Me to Tell You
Nothing is as permanent as change. Be aware that change is
constant.
Can I say something deeply and honestly to you? I DON’T TRUST ANYBODY.
I don’t trust you to the point that if I don’t see you I
can’t make it. Because everybody is
temporary.
Your husband is temporary. Your wife is not permanent. A
change will come.
Our problem is we live as if this is not going to change.
So, what I normally do is I imagine life without you. I love
you. Am glad you are here. But I imagine life without you. Just in case. That’s
wisdom.
Why He Attended His Wife’s Funeral
So, I’ve already attended my wife’s funeral long time ago.
More than once. Because I have no idea when…I enjoy every minute with her. But
I have to calculate, anticipate the possibility of it…for she might be
recalled.
I’ve already went into the emotional experience feeling if
she was in casket and Richard was preaching.
I’ve gone through the whole experience already so that if it
happens, it doesn’t impact me.
Our problem is that we expect nothing to change. And the
only thing we are guaranteed is change.
The important thing is that when it is your time you
deliver. Change is inevitable. Change is what life is about.
I look a photograph of me the other day with afro.
I said to myself, self that is not you.
Self said, that is you. Change. Ladies and gentlemen, change
is beautiful.
The Greatest Result of Crises.
All change is a crisis.
You didn’t do something and they
happened to you. So, the greatest result of crisis is change.
The Key to Life
The key to life is this; mastering the change of crisis.
Manage it properly.
How to Benefit from the Crisis of Life
You manage the crisis of change, so that you benefit from it
and it doesn’t destroy you. You have to expect change.
How to Minimize Your Disappointment
Disappointment is only possible where expectation is
present. So, if you want to minimize your disappointments in life, minimize
your expectations.
So, what I do with my life is I try to keep my expectations
very low so that my disappointment remains very low. That’s why I attend my
wife’s funeral….I have to deal with the expectation.
When you prepare for something, the disappointment level
will be low when it happens.
There is no greater impact on human existence than change
because a crisis is what you cannot control. You can’t stop it.
How He Attended the Funeral of His
Members
I have attended many of your funerals already. And I do that
to protect myself so that I can stand up with strength and to comfort your
family. I can be here and be your leader. I have to rehearse your future, so
that I can deal with the future when the future becomes the present.
Some of you say I am crazy. Let me quote you this.
Jesus said, they are going to crucify me, they are going to
bury me, I will arise the third day.
Then He says, and you will be persecuted, they will take you
before the courts, they will whip you, they will imprison you and they will
stone you…
He says, but do not be afraid for I have overcome the
system-the world.
Bible says, the disciples became very sad.
Why?
He rehearsed their future. All they saw was jail, prison,
and whipping.
Imagine prophesying, thou shall have problems. Thou shall be
put in jail etc.
And the Bible says, because they were down cast in their
hearts, He said to them to be of good cheer. I told you these things because
when they happen, you will not be offended in me.
He said, expect the worst so when it happens, you won’t be
offended.
Nothing can frustrate the enemy if the enemy put you in jail
and you say, I expect this. You take away the power of prison.
If you use the death of a person to bring depression to the
church for ten weeks you brought disgrace to God.
I told you your days are numbered….Because you did not
expect it, you did not believe me.
He Attended His Own Funeral
I attended my own funeral. I already saw who will be there.
You better be there.
I made a deal with myself. If anybody comes to my funeral
and you are not wearing a bright color, am going to get up out of the casket,
walk to you, and slap your face. Go back to the casket, lie down and die again.
What He Wants For His Funeral
I want colors.
Yellow ties, pink soaks, blue shoes, red skirts.
You are coming with no black. If you do I‘ll say take that
off.
This is a good experience. We’re going back to our
government. We are returning for our reward. The government is saying you’ve
done a good job.
We don’t moan as those who have no hope. When Jesus went to
a funeral and the people were crying, you know what the Bible says He did? He
put them out.
So, you don’t want me to get up and put you out.
If you have the victory, dress like it.
If death isn’t got no sting, why death make you look gloomy!
A man told Jesus I am going to kill you and Jesus said for
that cause I was born.
What Not To Expect.
Don’t expect me to be your pastor forever. Change.
Ecclesiastes 3:1
1 There is a time for
everything,
a season for every
activity under heaven.
New Living
Translation
Why You Should Not Quit On Life
There is a season. People come in seasons. Positions come in
seasons. Even marriages have seasons. There is a winter season.
“You crazy”
“You crazy”.
There is spring. They start talking to each other again.
Then, there is summer.
Sometime, you are broke, sometime you get plenty.
You don’t quit life because there is a season. “…a season
for every activity under heaven.”
Season when you can’t find a job. You don’t panic. You go to
your house, cook rice and sell it to someone. Don’t sit around and say there is
no job. Do something.
You outlast season… you don’t cringe in the middle of a
season.
You keep your summer clothes in winter because you have
faith that summer is coming again. We
will be enjoying very soon.
“Weeping may endure for the night…”, God says in the morning
it is over.
When the Lord makes a shift, its only for a season.
Ecclesiastes 3:2
“2 A time to be born
and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest.
New Living
Translation
We don’t read that. But there is a time for you to be born
and die too.
What to Do between When You Are Born and
When You Die
The points is between born and die, you better do your work.
On every tomb stone, there’s two dates. The date you’re
born. The date you die. And a little dash in the middle. That little dash is
your life. How long your dash is! What is your dash going to look like?
I finish my cause. Change is coming. Ready to offer
yourself. Study your course.
What to Do When Change Comes
Remember this when
you remember change.
Philippians 3:12, 13
12. “I don’t mean to
say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached
perfection! But I keep working toward that day when I will finally be all that
Christ Jesus saved me for and wants me to be.
13. “No, dear brothers and sisters, I am still
not all I should be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing:
Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead”
New Living Translation
FORGETTING is necessary for moving
Why We Don’t Enjoy Change
Verse 13, “No, dear
brothers and sisters, I am still not all I should be, but I am focusing all my
energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what
lies ahead,
New Living
Translation
Immature people walk around with things ten years. Mature
people are able to say, it was good, I enjoyed it, lets move on.
Why You May Be Going Through Tough Time Now
We are so tied to permanence we cannot enjoy change. Some of
you have not been promoted because the plan God has for you don’t like it.
Joseph saw himself as ruler on the throne. Sometimes God
doesn’t tell you how He’ll get you to the next level.
You are going through a tough time right now, its because
your change has arrived for the next level. Whatever you are going through, God
has a plan for you. Lets get ready to move on.
How
to Increase Your Maturity
Maturity is increased when you respond to change. Our level
of maturity is exposed by how we handle sudden change
Myles Munroe’s Antidote for Maturity in
Life
- The key to effective living is the capacity to handle the expected and the unexpected.
- Success is measured by your ability to maintain personal balance in times of turmoil.
- Your maturity is your capacity to respond effectively to tragedy and chaos. Its not who you are in good times. Its who are when something happened suddenly that you don’t expect. By the grace of God we manage it with faith and balance.
What Tragedy Will Do To You
Tragedy and the expected will shake the foundation of your
belief system.
Nothing is yours until you understand it. Your faith is
proven by doubt. In other words, the devil comes with doubt to test your belief…whether
you belief what you’ve been saying all along. Then like Peter you say I really
don’t want to follow you, but you have the word of life.
I don’t believe in God because my father believes in God. I
believe in God for myself.
The Greatest Tragedy
Ladies and gentlemen, the greatest tragedy is unexplained
tragedy. When you become like Job.
Real Faith
Real faith is when there is nothing left to believe on
except what He said. In other words, the fight for your tragedy is your faith.
Who Helped Him Understand Life
Job helped me understand life.
Job 1:1
“1 There was a man
named Job who lived in the land
of Uz. He was blameless,
a man of complete integrity. He feared God and stayed away from evil.
New Living
Translation
Myles Munroe’s Great Question to You.
In the midst of tests, tragedy and death, can God say I know
you like HE said of Job?
