How Obama Offends Christians

WASHINGTON — President Obama may have thought he was giving a straightforward history lesson at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday when he compared the atrocities of the Islamic State to the bloodshed committed in the name of Christianity in centuries past.
But that is not how many of his longtime critics saw it.
“The president’s comments this morning at the prayer breakfast are the most offensive I’ve ever heard a president make in my lifetime,” said Jim Gilmore, the former Republican governor of Virginia. “He has offended every believing Christian in the United States.”

Rush Limbaugh devoted a segment of his show to what he said were the president’s insults to the “whole gamut of Christians” and Twitter’s right wing piled on. Guests on Megyn Kelly’s Fox News show spent 15 minutes airing objections to the president’s comments.
“Lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ,” Mr. Obama said. “In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.”

The president stressed the importance of religious speech at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington on Tuesday.
Still, the president went on to focus on the terrorism carried out under the guise of Islam, saying that the last few months have shown the degree to which faith can be “twisted and misused in the name of evil.”
“From a school in Pakistan to the streets of Paris, we have seen violence and terror perpetrated by those who profess to stand up for faith — their faith — professed to stand up for Islam, but, in fact are betraying it,” he said, describing the Islamic State as “a brutal, vicious death cult that, in the name of religion, carries out unspeakable acts of barbarism.”
Bill Donohue, the president of the Catholic League, said in a statement that Mr. Obama was trying to “deflect guilt from Muslim madmen.” He said the president’s comparisons were “insulting” and “pernicious.”

Mr. Gilmore said the comments go “further to the point that Mr. Obama does not believe in America or the values we all share.”
The White House had no comment on Thursday night about the criticism.
In his speech, Mr. Obama said the use of religion to justify violence and killings “is not unique to one group or one religion.”
“There is a tendency in us, a sinful tendency, that can pervert and distort our faith,” he said.
The talk of terrorism was the sharpest note in a speech that was otherwise a reflection on religion and humility, and it was Mr. Obama’s latest effort to avoid branding recent violence by the Islamic State or those professing common cause with it as “Islamic” extremism. His team has said that doing so would play into the hands of terrorist organizations, legitimizing their message.

A Lady Blogger Vows to Stop Wearing Leggings to Avoid Tempting Men

A Christian blogger from Oregon has taken a stand against wearing leggings or yoga pants, saying that the body-hugging pants entice men. In a post titled “Why I Chose to No Longer Wear Leggings,” Veronica Partridge explains why she made the decision.
After talking to friends about leggings and if they cause men to think lustfully about women, Partridge spoke to her husband about the issue. She writes that her husband answered honestly saying, “Yeah, when I walk into a place and there are women wearing yoga pants everywhere, it’s hard not to look.”
Partridge wrote, “If it is difficult for my husband who loves, honors, and respects me to keep his eyes focused ahead, then how much more difficult could it be for a man that may not have the same self-control?”
The blogger explains her decision further writing, “...I made a personal vow to myself and to my husband. I will no longer wear thin, form-fitting yoga pants or leggings in public. The only time I feel (for myself) it is acceptable to wear them, is if I am in the comfort of my own home or if I am wearing a shirt long enough to cover my rear end. I also want to set the best example of how to dress for my daughter. I want her to know, her value is not in the way her body looks or how she dresses, but in the character and personality God has given her.”
Partridge’s blog post went viral and has been shared on Facebook over 69,000 times. The Christian blogger drew a variety of praise and criticism from commenters, but notes in a blog disclaimer that she does not intend to tell women what they can and cannot wear.
My comment. Some years ago,a women's organization invited me to contribute to this "seemingly"controversial issue. My opinion is  when you line up your clothes and put them on, what impression, image or brand  do you intend to portray of yourself.?

SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP IN NIGERIA'S POLITICS

President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria           Former Military Head of State of Nigeria, General M. Buhari

Posted by Ambassador T. Brikins

The major challenge to mankind is leadership-spiritual or secular. The desire to achieve leadership tasks man’s ingenuity. Therefore, the world is full  with much supply of philosophies, systems and even religions addressing this growing challenge by the day.

The wisdom that comes from “above”  puts Spiritual Leaders on top of worldly and demonic wisdom  above magicians, astrologers, soothsayers etc(Daniel 5:11-12), their secrets being that  they  operate the way of the Lord and  not the devices  of man.

Leadership by definition is not mutually exclusive to the spiritual or secular. The common denominator of leading people is having followers etc. The difference which is the concern of this piece is the manifestation of  the Spirit of God and the practice of His principles and Spirit.

“And He hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in the knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship” (Exodus 35:30-31).

This wisdom is not taught in our learning Institutions. But institutions with this perspective are now called “faith based institutions”.

Prof. Yemi Osibanjo                                                             Mohammed Namadi Sambo
This enthroning wisdom is from God. Whether in government like Moses, Joseph and Daniel, or in religion like Elijah, Elisha, or in business like Abraham, Jacob, Isaac,   Job and Jabez-it helps its possessors to achieve  extraordinary successes that defiles  earthly wisdom.

The presence of a problem does not exclude the absence or presence of answer. The real problem therefore might be the recognition of the answer.

Daniel knew this and said,” There is a God in heaven that reveal secrets” (Daniel 2:28). Pharaoh who did not serve the God of the Israelites  recognized this truth and acted to reap the benefits.” For as much as God hath showed thee all this, there is none as discreet and wise as thou art”.”…See, I have made thee over all the land of Egypt” (Genesis 41:39-41).

Jimi Agbaje of PDP and Akinwunmi Ambode...angling for the mega  city of Lagos.

According to Kenneth Copeland in his book,  “The Winning Attitude”, that means this world will never be overcome by a government, by a political system or by a monetary system. Money will never overcome the world! When the Bible talks about “the world”, it is speaking of the dominion of darkness, the god of this world, the evil spirit-Satan-that operates in this world. No man or system will ever-in any way, form or fashion-overcome the world without Jesus Christ as Lord. It simply can’t be done”.

William Purcell in his book, " Ten Spiritual Leaders"  says,” What is a spiritual leader? He or she is someone who, in a particular way and at a particular time, ha s to an outstanding degree revealed something of the reality of God to men and women of his or her own age and to the succeeding generations”.

He says there is a change coming. This change is “on the Christian scene is  one increasingly of a growing together of those who, professing the Christian cause, believing in the Christian faith, and trying to show it in their lives, are at long- last thought of, to a greater degree than ever before, as one”.

Dr. David Oyedepo in handling this world leadership issue in the book “The Emergence of the Glorious Church”, says,” I’m talking about the emergence of an army of God-from right in the midst of gloominess and darkness! A church is robed in power! An ever commanding strange wealth and manifesting the many sided –wisdom of God!”

Senatorial candidate of the PDP  for Lagos West, Hon. Segun Adewale(AKA Aeroland) said,  his election is a done deal.

Writing on the spiritual tool of this Kenneth Hagin in his book,” Beyond the Upper Room ",says, “We have seen the wave called the healing revival. We have seen the wave called the charismatic movement. We have seen the wave of faith and the teaching of God’s word. But now another wave is coming! It’s the wave of the Holy Ghost...”(p345)

While commenting on Revelation 5:10, David Oyedepo says,” So whether as a priest in the temple, or a king in the palace, in ministry, in businesses, the ultimate of redemption is to make you reign on the earth. Until you begin to reign in the area where God has placed you, you are not fulfilling your calling”.

We shall be engaging some politicians who are angling to reign in Nigeria's general election billed for Febuary 14, 2015 to speak in the context of their spiritual capital, calling and convictions.
