Chibok: 7 Years after, 100 kidnapped girls still in Boko Haram Captivity in Nigeria

Thursday, April 15, 2021

Over 100 of the 276 schoolgirls kidnapped on April 14, 2014, still remain with the Boko Haram terrorists. A victim's mother told the BBC Pidgin that her daughter will soon turn 25 years old in captivity.

Amnesty International says the Nigerian Government has learnt nothing from the incident and has taken no measure to protect students from being captured in schools. About 20 parents have died as a result of the incident while the Federal Government of Nigeria says they still have the girls in mind.

When the incident happened seven years ago, we wrote a story titled How King David Brought Back Our Girls. The first part of this post contains the post which was well received.

Church leaders Pay Tribute to Prince Philip as a Man of Questioning Faith

Prince Philip  and Mother Theresa

Story by Pat Ashworih, ChurchTimes

TRIBUTES continue to pour in following the announcement of the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, aged 99, earlier today.

Many have expressed respect for the way in which the Prince is acknowledged to have knuckled down to a role as the Queen’s consort which was distinctly unwelcome at the stage in life at which it came, and which cost him the naval career that he loved. There is respect and admiration for his rising above a childhood scarred by turbulence and family tragedies and spent largely in exile; and for his overcoming the hostility and suspicion of courtiers to a “foreign prince”.

‘’Some time ago the papers carried a story of a lone survivor of a shipwreck marooned on an uninhabited island, who managed to build a hut in which he placed all he had saved from the wreck.

He prayed to God for rescue and anxiously scanned the horizon every day to signal any passing ship. One day on returning from a hunt for food he was horror- stricken to find his hut in flames and all his possessions consumed.

What a tragedy! Shortly after a ship arrived. ‘’We saw your smoke signal and hastened here, the captain explained. The survivor thanked God for the incident’’. Dr. Herbert Lockyer wrote in his book, ’All the Promises of the Bible’’.

What an excellent illustration for Rom 8:28.  ‘’… we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose’’.

The concept or principle underlying protection against accident in the spiritual space springs from the truth that though accident is an unforeseen or unexpected event God whom the believer  serves is All-Knowing. His promises testify to this truth. Since man was created in the image and likeness of God Who is a Spirit and the Father of spirits, man has the  capacity to hear from God and enjoy these protective privileges.

Though the statistics on car accidents  earlier presented in the first part of this post  is scary, reports show that over 90% of automobile accidents can be avoided. Therefore, accidents can be prevented or the stats considerably reduced and lives and injuries from car accidents mitigated. My study show that there are recurrent trends which we can leverage on to prevent road car accidents. I have compiled   37 actions that you can exercise to avoid or minimize car accidents.

I was in my early twenties. I went partying with my boy friends. We drank many bottles of beer mixed with a local Nigerian dry gin known variously  as ‘illicit gin’ ‘ogogoro’, ‘akpetachi’, ‘number 1’, ‘ push- me- I- push- you’,’sapele water’.

A seller in  her ogogoro store

Time to go home. I climbed into the Honda Civic car driver's seat with a mountainous self confidence inflated by the mixed spirits & with no strapped seat belt on &  drove off. I tuned the radio & the number one selling music @ the time "sincro system” by maestro king Sunny Ade consumed the interior of the car. We sang along, clapping our palms along & stomping our feet on the car floor along. Well, did we sing along or shouted along? Our babel of inharmonious music expressing our high spirited  state. But not for long.
