COVIT 19: You Can Touch Heaven Like Luther Did & Do Something Like Matthew West Sings

'' Do Something...'' Matthew West

'' Christian doctors cannot abandon their hospitals, Christian governors cannot flee their districts, Christian pastors cannot abandon their congregations. The plague does not dissolve our duties: It turns them to crosses, on which we must be prepared to die.''
Martin Luther on the 1527  Bubonic Plague

Posted by Ambassador T. Brikins

Disease. Sickness. Death trend in human history. Nothing indeed is new under the sun. The names and causes may be different but the outcome are the same. Disease, Sickness and death. Forbes reports that global aviation monies will fall by at least $5 billion in the first quarter of 2020, with its expected impact on the industry to be greater than the 2003 SARS epidemics

But the world is abuzz. Trillions of dollars is pouring into coronavirus vaccines and economic stimulus efforts. But what can or should a  Christian do?

The core calling of the Christian is love. God is love. The New Testament commandment is love. Jesus says ‘’ A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.  By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. “John 13:34.  The golden rule says: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”; “Love your neighbor as yourself”; “Greater love has no man than this, that he should lay down his life for his friends.”

The love for ourselves define  our understanding of love in a revelation sense and by practise how we could express this divine love to others.

‘’ During plague periods in the Roman Empire, Christians made a name for themselves. Historians have suggested that the terrible Antonine Plague of the 2nd century, which might have killed off a quarter of the Roman Empire, led to the spread of Christianity, as Christians cared for the sick and offered an spiritual model whereby plagues were not the work of angry and capricious deities but the product of a broken Creation in revolt against a loving God.

‘’ This habit of sacrificial care has reappeared throughout history. In 1527, when the bubonic plague hit Wittenberg, Martin Luther refused calls to flee the city and protect himself. Rather, he stayed and ministered to the sick. The refusal to flee cost his daughter Elizabeth her life. But it produced a tract, “Whether Christians Should Flee the Plague,” where Luther provides a clear articulation of the Christian epidemic response: We die at our posts. Christian doctors cannot abandon their hospitals, Christian governors cannot flee their districts, Christian pastors cannot abandon their congregations. The plague does not dissolve our duties: It turns them to crosses, on which we must be prepared to die.
 Martin Luther
Service to others takes precedence. What use is it to stuff-stock our homes with designer nose-mouth masks we may never use? Is it not much more honourable and loving that we serve? We could share masks and hand soap, sanitizers, foods, love calls, etc as our godly expression of ‘’… our brother’s keeper”.  We can also invest our time in the general call to intercession in our closets. This expression can reduce the death toll, win many souls into the kingdom of God as it did during the Roman Empire plague.

Matthew West

What next? Do Something, as Matthew West, wrote. It  is an apt a song about seeing a world that is in desperate shape, ready to fold like a house of cards at any time. '' West bemoans what he thinks is a God Who could do something about the evil world and so asks, “God, why don’t You do something?” Well, I just couldn’t bear the thought of, People living in poverty. Children sold into slavery. The thought disgusted me. So, I shook my fist at Heaven” but God’s clear answer to West was “If not us, then who. If not me and you. Right now, it’s time for us to do something,” meaning that West understood that God calls all of us to serve and give, and not to shake fists at God because we think He doesn’t care.

This is a simple way to touch heaven as there is rejoicing over one soul that is saved.

What else can be done?
